My background and experiences have brought me here to DC. From the minute I arrived I instantly felt the warm welcome of NMSHSA, new friends, and mentors. This summer I plan to advocate,  to learn, network, and explore a new environment.

Growing up in a family of farmworkers, I'm interning in DC, inspired by my parents and eager to learn. I'm determined to pave an easier path for future generations, especially my siblings, by pursuing a career that I am passionate about and hope to one day inspire them to pursue their dreams.

I've created a lot of core memories here in Washington, DC that now I get to take home. I can’t just choose one of my favorite moments in such a life changing experience. Every day I learned something new about myself and was open to meeting and trying new things. Enjoying time here wouldn't have been possible without my classmates, NMSHSA, or CLC.

From “I can’t believe I’m here” to “I can’t believe I’m leaving!” Soon, I’ll have to part with D.C. and fly back to good ol’ Texas. It’s not often that I reflect on my goals and overall life, but this internship has opened my eyes to so much. The fire in my heart has been lit, and I can’t wait to see how it goes!
