Bill Castellanos Parent Scholarship Award
The National Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association is pleased to announce the availability of a $1,000 scholarship to an individual who is currently pursuing his or her education in an institute of higher learning and have had a child enrolled in a minimum of one season or currently have a child enrolled in a Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Have had a child enrolled a minimum of one season or currently have a child enrolled in a Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program
- Have a clearly defined educational goal
- Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
Selection Criteria
Judges will rate specific, not subjective, information about:
- Parent educational goal: 15 points
- Personal statement that describes the parent involvement (work, volunteering, or other forms of assistance) with the MSHS program: 25 points
- Essay explaining the importance of the MSHS program and the effects it has had or has on the life of child and family: 35 points
- Recent academic challenge the parent faced and the description of how he/she overcame it: 25 points
Required Documentation
In addition to complete the Parent Scholarship Award Application, it is required to upload the following documentation to the application, or send it by mail or attached to an email:
- Verification of the child’s enrollment: A letter on letterhead from the former or current center supervisor or program director, a MSHS diploma, or equivalent
- Copy of high school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent
- Transcripts to support educational goal statement (or class schedule if attending the first semester)
Application Deadline
The complete nomination form and required documentation must be received by NMSHSA management on or before December 20, 2024, 5 pm ET.
