Joseph Castro
Joseph Castro is an Executive, Leadership, and Team/Group Coach with over 15 years of coaching, facilitation, training, team building, and leadership and organizational development experience. He has delivered this array of services in a bicultural and bilingual way to clients and organizations in the education, non-profit, and for-profit sectors.
Joseph is a Certified Coach / Facilitator with Leaders Who Coach, a Licensed Trainer for Coaching Out Of The Box, and a Certified Group Coach with the Group Coaching Head Quarters. He infuses diversity, inclusion, racial equity and belonging in the relationships and partnerships that he’s engaged in.
A proud grandson of migrant farm workers and first-generation university graduate, Joseph moved to San Luis Obispo, California from the agricultural community of Oxnard, California and earned his B.S. in Psychology and minor in Child Development at Cal Poly State University.
He has extensive experience and expertise in Training & Development and Leadership in Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs. At the programmatic and service delivery level, he held the position of Parent Family Community Engagement for Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Program serving 9 counties in the state of California. His work in this capacity included development and implementation of systems and operations, policies and procedures, organizational strategic plans, and shared governance; as well as the design and delivery of learning workshops and training and technical assistance for line level staff providing quality comprehensive school-readiness services to migrant children and families in the state of California.
On the Executive Leadership level, Joseph served as the Director of Program Support Department for Inspire Development Centers, the largest Migrant and Seasonal Head Start grantee in the state of Washington. In this capacity he led and managed a department of 30 staff responsible for the development and implementation of systems and operations, policies and procedures, organizational strategic plans, and training and technical assistance in the areas of Parent Family Community Engagement, Education and Mentor Coaching, Mental Health, and Health and Nutrition. Moreover, he led and managed the content development for, and transition to an online learning management system.
Throughout his professional career, Joseph has served on numerous Board of Directors Executive Committees, providing leadership and guidance for the organizations, including Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Luis Obispo County (3 years- vice-president and president), Latino Outreach Council of San Luis Obispo County (3 years – vice chair), National Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association (10 years – vice-president and president), and currently National Compadres Network (4 years - treasurer). Moreover, he’s been the fortunate recipient of various awards and accolades for community service and professionalism.
In addition to serving the community, Joseph enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. He is a Men’s Division member in the Soka Gakkai International-USA Buddhist Faith Community, a certified yoga instructor, and a certified Life Coach.
